Probably the best freeware application for standard definition DVDs is DVD Rebuilder, but I find it somewhat cumbersome. I've used the freeware combination of DVDFab HD Decrypter/DVD Shrink/Imgburn and find it's attributes no more desirable except for the cost factor.
